Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada, but was raised in the US. She's been an editor since the year 1995. Feminist Frequency is a website which hosts video and commentary on the representation of women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist for over 10 years. Feminist Frequency is a site dedicated to education, which examines women's role in the narratives of pop culture It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. The site also has the director of operations. In her efforts to dispel the myths that are associated with females in popular culture, she seeks to bring attention to targeted exploitation of women and the other marginalized groups of people in the online space. Sarkeesian, who holds an MA in Political and Social thought from York University, is a sought after public speakers. She has spoken at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. Since her early years Sarkeesian was captivated by the issue of gender identity and feminist thought. As a student, in 2009 she started her Feminist Frequency Website. She had a plan to start a web-based series on gender representation in video games and was the subject of a harassment online campaign. Her determination was not slowed from the attack, and in fact it only reinforced her desire to become an expert on media and feminism. The award-winning journalist has received numerous accolades to recognize her notable contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and founded Feminist Frequency. This educational non-profit explores the role of women in pop culture narratives.
